Florida 10U slams Grant Allstars

The Florida 10U Angels wasted no time in making a statement Saturday when they took the field against the Grant Angels Allstars. They quickly put six runs on the scoreboard in the first inning before adding one int the second, six more in the third and four in the fourth to end the game on the mercy rule. Team Grant erased the goose egg in the second inning with two runs going on the board and added their final three runs in the third inning.

Offensively, Team Florida set the tone early with Aamyia Speights showing patience at the plate and waiting for a walk. With one out, Saylor Slack singled to the right side and moved Speights to second. A walk to Natalie Tyus loaded the bases and set up an RBI for BreAnna Brown when she took one for the team. Madison Gilbert took a free pass by way of a walk that allowed Slack to score. Savannah Jane Grimsley added an RBI to her stats with a bases-loaded walk. Avery Vassallo put the bat on the ball for a single down the right side to add a pair of RBIs to her stats. Jocelyn Russ singled up the middle, followed by a fielder’s choice by Charlee May to bring the inning to an end with Team Florida leading 6-0. Defensively, Team Florida put the ball in Peyton Cleavenger’s hands. Cleavenger fanned the first batter before the second batter drew a walk. She followed that with a strikeout to the number three batter, followed by back-to-back walks to load the bases. Cleavenger knuckled down and fanned the next batter to end the inning with no runs crossing the plate.

Team Florida added another run in the top of the second inning. Ma’Kynzie Williams led things off with a double through the right side. Aniyah Fluitt singled down the first base line but was out on a fielder’s choice by Aamyia Speights. Peyton Cleavenger hit into a fielder’s choice to end the inning with Team Florida leading 7-0. Team Grant answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame to narrow the lead to 7-2.

Team Florida countered with six runs in the top of the third inning that started with back-to-back walks to BreAnna Brown and Madison Gilbert. Savannah Jane Grimsley connected for a single to the right side that loaded the bases. With one out, Jocelyn Russ picked up a cheap RBI on a walk with Charlee May joining the walk parade with an RBI walk. Ma’Kynzie Williams added an RBI on a single to deep right field. Aniyah Fluitt singled to right field with a run scoring on the play. Aamyia Speights took it down the third-base line before the inning ended with Team Florida leading 13-2. Team Grant closed the gap ever so slightly with three runs crossing the plate to make it a 13-5 game.

Team Florida plated four runs in the top of the fourth inning to make it a 17-5 game. Saylor Slack led off with a walk and moved to second on a single down the right-field line by Natalie Tyus. BreAnna Brown drew a walk to load the bases, followed by Madison Gilbert picking up a free RBI on a walk. With one out, Avery Vassallo had an RBI walk, followed by an RBI single to the right side by Jocelyn Russ. Charlee May hit into a fielder’s choice with Madison Gilbert scoring on the play. A strikeout ended the inning, but Team Florida had a 17-5 lead. Natalie Tyus took over in the circle in the bottom of the frame. Tyus fanned the side to end the game with Team Florida winning 17-5.
