Winn Dixie – Aldi Rumors put to rest

By: Shelia Mader

Calls, Facebooks posts, emails in hyped panic mode have flooded the Times office over the last several days. With corporate nearly impossible to reach in a short amount of time, we turned to recent building permits issued by the City of Marianna and to the not always 100% reliable internet.

According to City of Marianna Municipal Development, Aldi has applied for a development order for renovations to the existing Winn Dixie to be converted to an Aldi store.

Furthermore, the internet’s information is: “Yes, Aldi is converting the Winn-Dixie store in Marianna, Florida, into an Aldi store as part of a larger plan to convert a total of 220 Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s Supermarkets to the Aldi format by 2027. Aldi acquired Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn-Dixie, and is in the process of remodeling some Winn-Dixie locations to the Aldi format. The specific timeline for the Marianna store's conversion is not mentioned in the provided search results, but the process is underway at other locations and is expected to conclude by 2027.

The Times will continue to follow this story and report any updates as we obtain them.
