Cottondale A and B Teams Split with Bonifay

It was a tale of two very different games last week when the Cottondale Middle School baseball teams hosted Bonifay. The Hornets’ B team pulled out a close 8-7 win, while the A team fell 15-1 to a strong Blue Devils squad.
Bonifay Tops Cottondale A Team
It was a tough outing for the A team as Bonifay handed the Hornets a 15-1 loss.
The Blue Devils’ pitcher was dominant, allowing no hits and issuing five walks. Cottondale managed to put the ball in play, but nearly every attempt found a glove.
Trayton Land got the start on the mound, pitching one and two-thirds innings. He gave up five earned runs and eight unearned runs on six hits and five walks. Barrett Trimble came on in relief and allowed no earned runs and two unearned runs on three hits. He did not issue a walk and struck out two.
Offensively, the Hornets were held without a hit but drew five walks. Trimble scored the team’s lone run after reaching on a walk, and JuJu Ortiz picked up an RBI.
B Team Edges Blue Devils, 8-7
The B team bounced back with an 8-7 win behind the pitching efforts of Griffin Huff and Duke Seiss.
Huff started and pitched two and one-third innings, allowing no earned runs and four unearned runs on two hits and five walks. He struck out four. Seiss came on in relief, allowing no earned runs on one walk while striking out one.
At the plate, Ortiz led the way with a hit, a run scored, and three RBIs. Rowan McDaniel and Sawyer Baggett each added a hit, a run scored, and an RBI. Coper Buckles contributed a hit, two runs scored, and a walk. Kessler Ford recorded a hit and scored a run, while Kobe Kernoshack drew a walk and added an RBI.
