Deputy Administrator Rett Daniels introduced Melvin Lewis from Parks and Recycling and recognized his five years of service.
Daniels said, “So I have before you today Mr. Melvin Lewis celebrating his five-year anniversary with Jackson County Parks Recycling Department. Melvin is a masculine name with Irish and Scottish origins, meaning gentle giant, or armored chief, both of which describe Melvin. Melvin is named after his dad and has six kids, three boys and three girls.”
He told the Board Melvin loves to fish in his spare time and spend time with his family. Melvin came to work for parks and recycling five years ago after an extensive career with the state of Florida. Melvin worked at Sunland in Marianna and then also worked at a drug rehab facility totaling 15 years. He said, “Today, we chose a character trait of gentleness versus harshness. His gentleness is showing personal care and concern in meeting the needs of others. Melvin is our gentle giant and is deeply loyal and compassionate in both his professional and personal life. Melvin walks through life with his faith constantly and is a devoted son who's always taking care of his parents.”
Daniels said Melvin’s greatest accomplishments are his kids, and he is proud of all they do. Melvin has so many qualities, but the one that stands out is his gentleness. His gentle and happy demeanor helps on the toughest and hottest days in the department, I know we can always count on Melvin regardless of the task.”
The Board thanked Melvin for his service and dedication to the county in the job he does.
