The Jackson County Board of County Commissioners recognized Terri Hardin as Employee of the Month for August, 2025.
County Extension Director Doug Mayo introduced Hardin and gave the reasons why she was nominated and selected as Employee of the Month.
As in true Mayo fashion, he began by wishing a happy 203rd birthday to Jackson County. On August 12th of 1822, Jackson County was formed by dividing Escambia County and was named after Territorial Governor Andrew Jackson, who went on to become the seventh president in 1829. This took place 11 months after the US government acquired the Florida territory from Spain where it was formed.
There were an estimated 150 families living in the county that stretched from the Choctawhatchee River to the Suwannee River. There were no organized communities at the time, and so you can just imagine the challenges those first county Commissioner's face.
Mayo quickly turned his attention to the business at hand, “My next order of business is to read a proclamation.” Mayo then read the proclamation (attached).
Mayo said, “And I will say that we go ahead and apply the pardon as the employee of the month for August 2025 with a day off and a check in the amount of $50 to adopt the proclamation and authorize you as a chairman to sign.”
Commission Chairman Jamey Westbrook said, “I can do that. Don't spend that $50 all in one place.”
The Board thanked Hardin for her service to Jackson County.
