Holmes County Officials Thank Jackson County

By: Shelia Mader

Holmes County Commission Coordinator David Corbin expressed his appreciation to the Jackson County Board of County Commissioners for their immediate and generous assistance following the May 10, 2025, storm that struck Holmes County.

“Thank you, Mr. Dean, County Administrator, and Clerk of Court Clayton Rooks. It is both an honor and a privilege to stand before you today,” Corbin said. “Holmes County was hit hard by a severe storm on May 10th. By the grace of God, we were spared from even greater devastation. The storm struck around 11:30 that morning, leaving 51 roads closed and 81 homes damaged. In those first hours, we didn’t know where to begin.”

Corbin went on to recognize Jackson County for being the first to offer assistance.

“The first call I received that Monday morning, just after daylight, was from your Public Works Department. Jackson County, through the leadership of Mr. Timothy Perry, was the first county to reach out, offering manpower and equipment before we even had a chance to ask,” he said. “By Sunday afternoon, we had an executive order in place, and with the help of the National Guard and Sheriff’s Office, we began the recovery process. Sheriff Tate wanted to be here today but was unable to attend due to a prior commitment.”

Corbin then presented a plaque of appreciation and shared the inscription, read by Administrative Assistant Jane Dellwo:

Plaque Inscription:

On behalf of the Holmes County Board of County Commissioners and the citizens of Holmes County, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our friends in Jackson County for the incredible support shown during the May 10, 2025 tornadoes. When our communities were struck by widespread damage, 50 roads closed and 81 homes impacted, you didn’t wait to be asked. You reached out immediately, offering help, resources, and encouragement that lifted our spirits and helped us begin to recover.

Your kindness, quick action, and willingness to serve made a world of difference when we needed it most. We are deeply grateful for the friendship and cooperation you have continued to show since that time. It is comforting to know that we have neighbors like you, always ready to lend a hand. The way Jackson County responded will never be forgotten.

In difficult times, we are reminded that we are all part of one larger community. Thank you for standing with us and proving that together, we can overcome anything.

Closing his remarks, Corbin added with a smile, “We brought a small token of appreciation, a Holmes County cap, as a reminder of our gratitude and the strong partnership between our counties.”

The Jackson County Board of County Commissioners expressed their thanks for the visit to their meeting, the kind words, and the Holmes County cap.
