In a historic moment for Jackson County, Jenel D'Alessandro was officially installed as the new Commander of Ted Walt VFW Post 12046 last Thursday evening. D'Alessandro is notably the first female commander for any veteran organization in Jackson County, Florida.

D'Alessandro brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having served as a Fireman and Personnelman in the U.S. Navy during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. She spent six years in the U.S. Navy. Following her military service, she continued her commitment to public service by becoming a Florida Certified Educator in Science and History.

She was recognized by the Florida VFW as “Teacher of the Year” (2024-2025), representing District 17, Post 12046. This honor underscores her dedication to both veterans and to educating future generations.

"It is an incredible honor and privilege to represent such a worthy organization here in Jackson County," said D'Alessandro. "Women have played an integral role in the U.S. military for generations, evolving from support roles to serving on the front lines in all capacities. To be the first female commander of a veteran organization in Jackson County is a testament to the dedication and sacrifice of all women veterans who have paved the way."

D'Alessandro looks forward to collaborating closely with her comrades at both the VFW and the American Legion, as well as with the broader community, to enhance the recognition and support for local veterans and their families.
