Jackson County Board of Commissioners had a celebration of sorts at their regularly scheduled board meeting held this week. The Jackson County Road and Bridge Department honored Robert “Bobby” Cook for 35 years of steadfast service and commitment to the community. Known simply as “Bobby” by colleagues and friends, his legacy is one of loyalty, quiet leadership, and an unwavering dedication to the people of Jackson County.
Bobby began his journey with the county as a mower operator and, through hard work and a strong sense of responsibility, was promoted to grader operator in 1994, a position he has held with distinction ever since. Throughout the years, Bobby has become a cornerstone of the department, known for his punctuality, reliable performance, and deep knowledge of road operations.
“Bobby is more than just a long-serving employee, he’s a role model,” said the current Director of Road and Bridge Jeffrey Register. “He shows us all what it means to do your job with pride, humility, and integrity. His example makes us better.”
Those who work alongside Bobby describe him as level-headed, consistent, and deeply principled. His decision-making and actions reflect a life guided by virtue, serving not just the department, but the greater good of the community.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bobby’s personal life stands as a testament to his values. He and his wife Faye have shared 52 years of marriage, raising a loving family that now includes children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Just as he has shown dedication on the job, Bobby’s commitment to his family paints a picture of a man whose integrity runs deep both on and off the clock.
“Knowing Bobby is out there gives all of us peace of mind,” said one longtime coworker. “His reliability isn’t just something we talk about, it’s something we depend on.”
As the county looks to the future, it does so with gratitude for those like Bobby Cook, whose everyday actions have helped shape a safer, stronger community. His 35 years of service are not only a remarkable achievement, they are an inspiration.
