McLane Community Center Improvements – FRDAP Grant
By: Shelia Mader
The City of Marianna received funding under the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP) for improvements to McLane Community Center. The grant is specifically designated for upgrades that enhance accessibility, comfort, and recreation opportunities for the community’s youth.
The FRDAP funds will be used to purchase ADA-compliant playground equipment, swings, picnic tables, park benches, a water fountain, and shade structures to improve comfort and safety at the park.
Two quotes were received from Emerald Coast Shade for the purchase and installation of shade structures. The City is requesting approval for an expenditure of $49,220 for the installation of two shade structures at McLane’s Park. This purchase is 100% grant-funded.
City Recreation Director Jeff Faircloth noted that every opportunity is pursued to secure funding that benefits the youth of Marianna.
When asked by commissioners about the project timeline, administration confirmed that the equipment is currently in production.
A motion to approve was made by Commissioner Rico Williams and seconded by Commissioner Kenny Hamilton. The motion passed unanimously (5-0).
