Atlantic Coast Theatre for Youth comes to Marianna library

By: Shelia Mader

The Atlantic Coast Theatre for Youth delighted a young and not so young crowd of around 50 last week with their version of The Three Little Circus Pigs.

The library was buzzing with excitement as children gathered for a special performance. The event, which was free to the public, invited local youth not just to watch, but to become a part of the performance, stepping onstage to assist the actors in bringing the whimsical tale to life.

The two-person touring troupe, known for delivering high-energy, interactive theatrical experiences across the Southeast, performed a very unique play. While the title may have sparked some curiosity, the twist on the classic tale had the young audience laughing, clapping.

In this reimagined story, the Big Bad Wolf wasn’t quite so bad after all. Now working as a circus barker, she opened the show by explaining to the crowd how she came to love the circus. As she reminisced, a series of circus performers, played by the second member of the troupe, entered the stage in quick-changing roles, including a strongman, a lion tamer, with a puppet lion, and the plate-spinning comedian and juggler each act more entertaining than the last.

The wolf eventually revealed the "truth" behind her infamous house-blowing reputation. As it turns out, it wasn’t malice, but rather a serious case of allergies that led to the destruction of the pigs’ homes. After watching the circus performance, her sneezing fit accidentally blew down the straw and stick homes, earning her an unfairly villainous title in fairy tale lore.

By inviting children to help onstage and interact with the performers, the Atlantic Coast Theatre turned a simple library visit into an unforgettable experience.

The event was part of the Jackson County Library’s summer programming, which aims to promote literacy and imagination through fun, educational opportunities.
