By: Shelia Mader

There are five offices up for election this year and four of those offices have candidates pre-filed to run.

The Jackson County School Board will have Districts 1, 4, and 5 open while the Jackson County Commissioners have seats 2 and 4 open for election.

Incumbent school board member Chris Johnson prefiled Friday, seeking his sixth term as the school board member for District 4. Thus far, he is the only candidate that has qualified.

Incumbent and first term District 5 school board member Michael “MJ” Jackson prefiled Thursday to run for a second term. No one else has filed as of now.

No one has prefiled for School Board District 1 now held by Chephus Granberry. Granberry is concluding his first term on the school board.

Jackson County Commission District 2 has two candidates that have prefiled. Incumbent Republican Edward Crutchfield will be seeking a second consecutive term and third term overall. Challenger Republican Peter “Sonny” Fortunato, Jr. has also prefiled to run in District 2.

Incumbent Donnie Branch, Republican, prefiled to run for re-election for the Jackson County Commission District 4. This will be his second term.

The Times will continue to update our readers as candidates prefile for election.
