Log Truck Fire Extinguished With No Injuries
By: Shelia Mader
Friday afternoon, a loaded log truck was passing through Cottondale on Highway 90 when the driver realized his logs were on fire. Cottondale Fire Chief Ty Daniels said the quick thinking of the driver was key in the fire being extinguished with no injuries and damages limited to the log truck.
“The driver was able to maneuver the truck to the vacant lot between the Shell Station and the Dollar General.” Cottondale and Alford Fire Departments, along with Jackson County Fire Rescue combined forces to extinguish the fire completely, limiting the damages to the truck and its contents.
A gentleman traveling on Highway 90 East called to alert the Times, “There’s a fully loaded log truck with flames everywhere right in the middle of Cottondale. It looked like a pretty serious fire. But I pulled over and within minutes, there were firetrucks and ambulances there and shortly after the fire was out. Those guys were no strangers to fighting a fire.”
The Times extends their gratitude to the Cottondale and Alford Fire Departments, and Jackson County Fire & Rescue for their joint efforts today.
