By: Shelia Mader

The MK-8 Bullpup volleyball teams ran into tough competition last week, dropping matches against Wakulla and FSUS. While the results didn’t land in their favor, both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ squads showed plenty of fight and flashes of promise that will serve them well as the season unfolds.

In ‘B’ team action, the Bullpups dropped the opening set 25-11 but regrouped quickly, battling back to claim set two 25-16. The deciding third set was hard-fought, with Wakulla pulling away late for a 15-3 win. Leading the way, Braylynn Burge delivered an impressive 10 aces, while Sabre Carter dished out seven sets. Morgan Casey powered the net with four kills, while Kamdyn Tew and Carter anchored the defense, each notching eight passes.

The ‘A’ team battled hard in their matchup with Wakulla, falling in straight sets, 25-18 and 25-21. Julia Flowers and Lyla Swearingen made their presence felt with six aces apiece, while Flowers also tallied an outstanding 11 passes. Kate Barton added three kills at the net, and Adyson Brown set up her teammates with 10 assists.

Against FSUS, the Bullpups’  A team fought through a three-set loss. While full stats weren’t available, the girls continued to display strong teamwork and skill, keeping rallies alive and never backing down.

Though last week ended with setbacks, the Bullpups are a young, talented group with strong leadership on the court and from the sidelines. With the grit and determination they’ve shown already, it won’t be long before the wins start stacking up again.
