Marianna Darlings All-Stars close out their season

By: Shelia Mader

The season ended sooner than the Darlings would have liked but the experience was one filled with memories that will last a lifetime. Twelve girls bonded over a period of weeks readying to take on what came their way and they did so with the very best attitudes you could ask for from these young athletes. None older than eight years old but had the composure unknown to some at 18. The TIMES publisher and staff congratulates this team on their accomplishments during All-Star play.

In the first game of All-Stars Friday evening, Marianna took on Wewa and left the field with a loss. The Marianna team went three up, three down in the first inning. Despite Wewa scoring six runs in their half of the inning, the Marianna girls battled like it was a zero-zero game in their second inning.

Kaisley Rhynes led things off reaching first safely and moved to third when Averie Willis had a base hit. Ella Gilley picked up an RBI when she reached first safely. Aubrey Bennett sacrificed home the final run of the game for Marianna.

Saturday in game two, it was Marianna taking on the Blountstown All-Stars. Blountstown scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning after holding Marianna off the board. Marianna matched those runs in the top of the second inning, with Blountstown answering with six in their half of the frame. Both teams added one run in the third inning for the final scoring of the game.

Leading Marianna offensively was Averie Willis with a hit, a run scored, and an RBI, followed by Kaisley Rhynes with two hits and one run scored. On board with a hit and an RBI each were Aubrey Bennett and Ellie Brock, followed by Makinlee Edwards, with Kami Wright and Halle Blank recording a hit each.
