Despite two Bulldogs recording double digits last week against Mosley, they came up short of a win, 58-38. Marianna had a strong first quarter, outscoring their opponent 15-10 but the Dolphins offense came alive for 17 points in the second quarter while their defense held Marianna to just six points.
At the midway mark, it was a 21-27 game in Mosley’s favor, but Mosley snuck by Marianna in the third by scoring 11 to Marianna’s 10. Mosley stretched their lead with 20 more points in the final quarter to seal their victory.
Leading the Bulldogs with 11 points each were Harmoni Gibson and Dessiah Gee, followed by Ja’Shonna Mathis with nine points.
Bulldogs win 56-31 over Arnold
Ja’Shonna Mathis put up eight points in the first quarter to push Marianna to a 17-5 lead over Arnold and once Mariana was ahead, they never looked back.
They continued their dominance in the second quarter, winning 21-11 to take a 38-16 lead into the halftime break.
The Bulldogs gave their bench some key playing time with Marianna scoring 18 while Arnold added 15 to their score, giving Marianna the win.
Marianna was led in scoring by Jeressa Lewis with 17 points, followed by Harmoni Gee on her heels with 16 points. Also in double digits was Dessiah Gee with 10 points, while Ladeseia Hayes with eight points.
Marianna will be looking for double digits on the wins side this next week as they take on Poplar Springs, Bay and Enterprise. MHS has faced all three earlier this season with a win in each one so hopes are high.
