Marianna man arrested Sunday

The Jackson County Times received the following press release from the Marianna Police Department.

On Sunday, April 19, 2026, officers with the Marianna Police Department were flagged down by a female near the intersection of Jefferson Street and Lafayette Street.

Upon contact, officers observed visible injuries to the victim’s face. The victim stated she had been physically battered by Michael Lawrence at approximately 12:00 a.m. that same date. She further reported that Lawrence took her cell phone to prevent her from contacting law enforcement.

The victim was transported to Jackson Hospital for medical treatment.

Later that afternoon, officers located Michael Lawrence in the parking lot of Grocery Outlet. During the encounter, Lawrence was found in possession of the victim’s cell phone.

During the investigation, officers also noted that the tread pattern on Lawrence’s shoes was consistent with impressions observed on the victim’s face.

Michael Lawrence, 42, of Marianna, Florida, was taken into custody and charged with:

•Battery with Prior Convictions

•Grand Theft ($750–$5,000) with Prior Convictions

•Depriving a Victim of 911 Access

The stolen cell phone was recovered and returned to the victim. Lawrence was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility, where he is being held pending first appearance.
