By: Shelia Mader
The Midget League is just one step away from the Juniors level, and at ages 9 and 10, these players are already showing plenty of promise. Fans packed the gym eager to catch a glimpse of the talent that will soon be making waves at Optimist Park Rec Ball for years to come, and the young hoopers did not disappoint.
Two games were on the schedule, starting with the Bulls taking control early and rolling past the Sixers, 23-8. The Sixers were led by Cainon Hayes, who finished with five points, while Amaris Curry chipped in two. Ky’Rese Brooks added a free throw to round out the scoring as the Sixers continued to battle to the final buzzer.
The Bulls showed balance and energy throughout, with Charley Schuler leading the charge with six points, putting on a performance that might have caught the attention of brothers Seth and Silas Schuler. Landon Garrett and Shaquille McDole each added four points, while Wyatt Pickles contributed three. Braylon Figgers, Jarrien Dudley, and Drake Burch all found the basket for two points apiece as the Bulls spread the scoring around.
In the second Midget League matchup, the Magic edged out the Timberwolves 8-3 in a hard-fought contest. Declan Owens accounted for all three Timberwolves points, battling in the paint and keeping his team within striking distance.
The Magic were led by Camden Peoples, who poured in seven points to pace the offense, with Carson Myrick adding a free throw to seal the win.
With hustle, smiles, and plenty of enthusiasm on display, the Midget League players gave fans a fun preview of the exciting basketball still to come.
