One killed in accident at Springhill Landfill

The Jackson County Times received the following press release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

One person was killed in a single vehicle tractor trailer accident at the Waste Management Springhill Landfill Monday, August 11, at 11:35 a.m.

After arriving at the Waste Management Springhill Landfill, the driver, a 64-year-old Tallahassee Florida man, failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway leading to the landfill and semi traveled off the roadway and down the embankment. The semi then collided with an embankment on the backside of the ravine and then struck a tree.

The semi came to rest in the ravine against the embankment and the tree, facing in a westerly direction.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
