County administrator Jim Dean told the board the last request of the regular monthly meeting was to approve Lenny Shores for another term on the Tri County Airport Board.
The Tri-County Airport is a public access airport with a runway of 5,398 x 75 feet, a certified helipad, tie-downs, shade hangars and hangars. Tie-downs and shade hangers are available for short-term or long-term use; there is a waiting list for most hangars, no waiting list for tie-downs. The airport elevation is 85 feet.
It is approximately six miles northeast of Bonifay (Florida), six miles northwest of Chipley and eleven miles southwest of Graceville. It is in close proximity to Dothan and Panama City.
The airport provides access to the air transportation network in support of commerce and private general aviation and works closely with the Federal Aviation Administration and the Florida Department of Transportation. It is in the western Florida panhandle 56 miles north of Panama City and is in the central time zone.
There is flight instruction as well as limited maintenance and repairs availability. A skydiving operation is based on the field and is active most weekends (year-round) during good weather.
Commissioner Dr. Willie Spires made the motion with a second by Commissioner Edward Crutchfield. Motion passed unanimously.
Chairman Jamey Westbrook said, “He was a former classmate of mine at Chipola and he’s as sharp today as he was then.”
