Word of the Day:
Friday: Flamboyant: Adjective. Something or someone described as flamboyant has a very noticeable quality that attracts a lot of attention. Such a person is often strikingly elaborate or colorful in their behavior or display. Reality television attracts millions of viewers for its depictions of flamboyant, larger-than-life personalities living equally flamboyant livestyles.
Saturday: Scrupulous: Adjective. Someone who is very careful about doing something correctly or something marked by such carefulness. She was always scrupulous about her work.
Sunday: Exasperate: Verb. To cause irritation or annoyance or to make them angry. We were all exasperated by the delays.
Monday: Axiom: Noun. A statement accepted as true as the basis for argument or inference. An established rule or principle or a self-evident truth. It’s an axiom in my friend group that whoever suggests the restaurant has to make the reservation.
Tuesday: Periphrasis: Noun. The use of an indirect, roundabout, or unnecessarily long phrasing in place of a shorter, more direct expression. To get out of talking about a taboo subject, the speaker used periphrasis and rambled on and on rather than poetically about other things.
Wednesday: Mimesis: Noun. Imitation, mimicry. Kids learn a lot through mimesis, copying what they see adults do.
Thursday: Metier: Noun. A formal word that refers to something that a person does very well. After trying several careers, she found her true metier in computer science.
