Bulldogs come up short against Leon Lions

By: Shelia Mader

The Marianna Bulldogs are experiencing a difficult season, dropping to a 1-6 record after a tough 35-6 loss to the Leon Lions on the road. The game started with the Bulldogs unable to capitalize early, punting on their first two possessions. Meanwhile, Leon demonstrated offensive prowess with a mix of passing and run plays, quickly building a commanding lead of 35 points, which prompted the running clock.

Despite the overwhelming score, Marianna's freshman Walt Maddox stood out with a resilient performance, grinding through four quarters and scoring a 14-yard touchdown with time running out in the fourth quarter. His effort symbolizes the team's fighting spirit amid adversity.

Defensively, Kentrell James led the effort with six solo tackles, showcasing leadership on the field. The team’s overall struggles on the road have been evident, but individual efforts like Maddox’s highlight potential for future growth.

Looking ahead, the Bulldogs will aim to bounce back at their home stadium against Holmes County, seeking to improve and regain momentum moving forward.
