The evening’s presentations at the Jackson County School Board meeting began with a special recognition tied to item 3.1, celebrating an incredible milestone, students who have read 1,000 books before even starting kindergarten. Superintendent Hunter Nolen introduced the moment with a bit of humor, noting that while Mr. Powell may not have personally read 1,000 books, he has certainly made sure others have. With that, he welcomed Kristy Halley to lead the presentation.
Halley shared the excitement of the occasion, emphasizing how meaningful it is to celebrate such a major achievement at an early age. Joined by Miss Alicia from the library, she began calling forward the honorees: Parker Daniels, Riley Daniels, Clara Shelley, and Winston Shelley.
Following the presentation, Superintendent Nolen offered his congratulations, recognizing not only the students’ dedication but also the bright futures ahead of them. He noted that while some of them might be heading off to a soccer game that evening, he hopes to see them return in the years to come for even more accomplishments.
The recognition highlighted four young readers who reached the remarkable goal of 1,000 books before kindergarten. Among them, Winston and Clara Shelley also took part in the Jackson County Times summer reading program, further showcasing their commitment to learning.
The Jackson County School Board continues to stress the importance of celebrating students who go above and beyond. Moments like these serve as a reminder that hard work, curiosity, and a love of reading deserve to be recognized and encouraged.
