Dorothy N. Burch, age 89, passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
Dorothy was a steadfast member of the Grand Ridge Baptist Church for over two and a half decades, where she found joy and fellowship among her church family. Her commitment to community and service shone brightly throughout her career span with the Jackson County School Board.
Dorothy's hard work was instilled in her from a young age, and it was a trait she carried throughout her life. Never one to shy away from a challenge, she prided herself on the meticulous care of her yard, ensuring it was welcoming for her family and friends. But it was not just the outdoors that felt the touch of Dorothy's diligent hands; her kitchen was a haven of delectable aromas and flavor—her coconut cake, in particular, was a well-known delicacy in Jackson County.
Retirement did not slow Dorothy down; instead, it provided her with new avenues to extend her service to others. Her tenure as a volunteer Pink Lady was marked by the same commitment and compassion she brought to every endeavor, always finding ways to contribute to the well-being of those around her.
Beyond her professional and community service, Dorothy possessed a tender artistry, keenly displayed in her crocheting. Many family members and friends were the lucky recipients of her crafted treasures, each stitch a testament to her patience and thoughtfulness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilton and Esther Parker Durden; her son, Marty Burch; and her brother, Gene Durden.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Fred E. Burch; daughter, Rhonda Johnson (Mike); son, Freddy Burch, Jr. (Shirley); sister, Merita Stanley; grandchildren, Anthony Burch (Shannon), Hilton Burch (Jamie), Freda Tart (Paul), Luke Johnson (Kristy), Seth Johnson (Jacy), Chase Johnson (Michaela); great grandchildren, Logan, Kaitlyn, Braden, Bryce, Amber, Allison, Clayton, Noah, Reese, Addie, Braylon, Hadley and Colden; and nine great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Monday December 8, 2025 at Grand Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Caron Harns officiating and Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Grand Ridge Baptist Church.
Those serving as pallbearers will be: Luke Johnson, Seth Johnson, Chase Johnson, Hilton Burch. Anthony Burch and Logan Burch.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Grand Ridge Baptist Church (2093 Porter Ave. Grand Ridge, FL 32442).
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude the Emerald Coast Hospice Staff and to Jenny, Tonya, and Carol for caring for Dorothy just as if she was family.
