Walterene Cook Langford

Walterene Cook Langford affectionately known as “Rene”, 80 of Marianna, Florida went home to be with the Lord on July 27, 2025 at Marianna Health and Rehab.

Rene was born on April 28, 1945 in Jackson County, Florida to John Cook and Lois Ranew. Rene was a lifelong resident of the Florida Panhandle and a faithful member of Damascus Freewill Baptist Church in Marianna, Florida. Rene had a passion for sewing; she poured love into everything she made from wedding dresses to curtains. She loved children, and she was a foster parent who opened her home to many children over the years. Most of all, she loved her family and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Clarence Langford; parents: John and Lois Cook; sister: Carolyn Holland; sons: Larry Langford and Gene Langford; niece: Connie Mock; nephew: John Mock.

She is survived by her son: John Joel Langford (Heather) of Marianna, FL; grandchildren: Alexandria Langford, Maddi Basford Miller, Gage Basford (Laynie) and great-grandson: Liam Basford; niece: Cathii O’Bryan, and five very special medical professionals at Marianna Health and Rehab, Crystal, Star, Amiyah, Michelle, Indie and Lashay.

Service will be held 10 AM Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Damascus Freewill Baptist Church in Marianna, Florida with Pastor Charles Johnson officiating. Internment will follow in Dykes cemetery. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Women’s Pregnancy Center in Marianna, Florida. (4540 H Lafayette Street.)
