Betty Faye Baxter
Betty Faye Baxter, age 83, of Sneads, Florida, passed away on August 22, 2026, in Sneads, Florida.
She was born on November 6, 1942 in Altha, Florida. Betty was known for her warm spirit and the many ways she cared for others throughout her life. She enjoyed baking, sewing, and crocheting, and she took great pride in the things she made with her own hands. She also loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing in Lake Seminole and in her catfish pond. Working in the yard and caring for her flowers brought her peace and satisfaction.
Betty worked at Baxter’s Country Store, which she and her husband Jimmy owned. She enjoyed visiting with her regular customers and was known for talking and cutting up with them in a way that made everyone feel welcome. Her presence at the store was a familiar and comforting part of daily life for many in the community.
Betty also dedicated many years of service as a school lunchroom manager at Sneads Elementary School. In that role, she helped care for countless children through her work and her dependable nature. Her work in the school lunchroom was another reflection of her lifelong commitment to serving others.
She was preceded in death by the father of her children, Cecil Ray Gilley; husband, Jimmy L. Baxter; parents, Bernice and William Barfield; as well as her two sisters, Carrie Ann Bridges and Ava Lou Hall.
Survivors include her children, Phillip Ray Gilley (Tammie) of Sneads, FL, Mary Ann Gilley Hatcher (Tim) of Grand Ridge, FL, Beth Gilley Copeland (Raymond) of Snead's FL; grandchildren, Chris (Jessica) Gilley of Sneads, FL, Stephanie May Wilkinson of Greenwood, FL, Michael May (Melisa) of Booker FL, Nikki Dick (Adam) of Lyn Haven, FL, Steven May (Lindsey) of Grand Ridge, FL, Tim Gilley (Anna) of Sneads, FL, Josh Copeland (Nicole) of Paxton FL, Tori Copeland Foster (Brian) of Jacksonville, FL as well as eighteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
Survivors also includes her siblings, John Barfield (Patsy) of Lyn Haven, FL, Peggy Barfield Langston (JR) of Tallahassee, FL, Karen Barfield Ellison ( Lee) of Altha, FL as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Minister Phillip Box officiating. Interment will take place in Carpenter Cemetery with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.
