Bettye Jo Holley, a cherished educator, devout Christian, and pillar of her community, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, in Marianna, Florida, at the age of 87 marking the end of a life extraordinarily well-lived. Born on September 23, 1938, in Chattahoochee, Florida, Bettye Jo’s life was a testament to her unwavering faith and her dedication to serving others.
Bettye Jo was predeceased by her loving parents, Nathaniel Toliver Parkman and Aliff Olene Morris Parkman; her beloved husbands, Charles W. Lanier whom she married in 1975 and passed in 2002 and Rev. Al Holley who passed in 2021; her caring brother, Buddy Parkman; and her son-in-law, Kerry Parker. Her legacy continues through her daughters, Jimma Parker and Sarah Kirkland (Travis); her sister, Lauriel Hicks; her adoring grandchildren, Blake Parker (Hannah), Lawson Parker (Molly), Spencer Parker, Madison Prichard (Teddy), Taryn Fant (Brent), and Trevor Kirkland; and her great-grandchild, Lowen Fant. Bettye Jo will also be fondly remembered by her nieces, Alicia Coon and Jennifer Parkman; her nephew, Jay Hicks; and a host of extended family members who were blessed to be a part of her life.
After graduating from Chattahoochee High School, Bettye Jo continued her education at Carson Newman College, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education. Her passion for teaching led her to a fulfilling career as an educator in Gadsden County. She was always very proud of her family’s business, the Parkman Store in River Junction, Florida.
A lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Chattahoochee, Bettye Jo's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She lived her Christian values every day, touching the hearts of those around her through her kindness and generosity.
Bettye Jo's interests were as warm and inviting as her personality. She had a love for music, often gracing others with her singing and piano playing. In her younger years, she enjoyed the camaraderie of a good card game and stayed sharp in her later years playing games on her tablet.
Described by all who knew her as friendly and generous, Bettye Jo's presence was a comfort and her smile a constant reminder of the joy she found in life's simple pleasures. Her unwavering support and love for her family, friends, and students will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Bettye Jo Holley's life was a testament to the impact one person can have on the lives of many. Her spirit, teachings, and love will continue to be a guiding force for all those she has left behind. As we say goodbye to this remarkable woman, we also celebrate the incredible legacy she has created. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her, and her influence will continue to inspire for generations to come.

A Celebration of Bettye Jo’s life and time of reflection for family and friends will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, with the service beginning at 11:00 AM Central Time in the chapel of McAlpin Funeral Home. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Bettye Jo will be laid to rest on a later date during a private graveside service.
