Eunice H. McAlpin

Eunice H. McAlpin

Eunice H. McAlpin, a woman of warmth and resilience, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, at the age of 101. Born on December 1, 1924, in Grand Ridge, Florida, to Edgar Hamilton and Alice Stephens Hamilton, Eunice was a lifelong resident of Jackson County, Florida, embedding herself deeply in the fabric of her community. She spent her final moments surrounded by the love and comfort of her family in Marianna, Florida.

Eunice was the cornerstone of her family, renowned for her loving nature, friendly demeanor, and courageous spirit; she was the beloved matriarch of a large and thriving family. She was preceded in death by her cherished parents; her devoted husband, Alexander "Jr" McAlpin; her sister, Phobe Hamilton; her son, George Yount and a daughter, Ann Yount. Her legacy continues through her surviving children, Karen Clark (Mike Taylor), Darrell Yount (Sandy), Tillman Yount (Irene), and William Hatcher (Karen); her daughter-in-law, Beverly Yount; her thirteen grandchildren; and a host of adoring great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved deeply.

Eunice attended Grand Ridge School, where she cultivated her love of learning and community. She dedicated her life to nurturing her family and home. Her Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her through times of joy and hardship alike.  A true homemaker, she poured love and care into every task, whether it was tending to her garden or stitching a quilt. Eunice's hands were rarely still, as she delighted in the simple pleasures of gardening, both flowers and vegetables, and the art of canning the bounty from her labor.

Eunice's love for the outdoors was evident not only in her vibrant gardens but also in her commitment to raising chickens and maintaining her yard with vigor and pride, even as she neared a century of life and her quilting was not merely a hobby but a testament to her artistry, which she pursued passionately until the age of 99.

Her strong will and grit were legendary amongst those who knew her, and her loving, friendly, and generous spirit made her a dear friend to many. As the well-known quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson goes, "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." By this measure, Eunice's life was a resounding success, touching countless hearts with her kindness and generosity.

Eunice H. McAlpin will be remembered for her unfaltering spirit, her loving nature, and the generosity she showed to everyone she met. Her life was a tapestry of the love she gave and the strength she embodied, a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A Graveside Service celebrating the life of Eunice will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Pope Cemetery in Sneads, Florida beginning at 1:00 PM Central Time.
