Gwendolyn Lenora Blount Wright

Mrs. Gwendolyn Lenora Blount Wright, age 85, of Jacob City, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 8, 2026 in Pensacola, Florida.

She was born on January 14, 1953, in Jackson County, Florida, to the late Deacon Jackson Blount and Deaconess Annie Ruth Gainer Blount. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Deacon Alonzo Wright of Chipley, Florida. Gwen faithfully stood by his side until the Lord called him home.

At an early age, Gwen accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Jacob City, Florida. Following her marriage, she united in fellowship with Jerusalem Baptist Church in Chipley, Florida, where she served faithfully for many years. After the passing of her husband and mother-in-law, she returned to St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained an active and dedicated member, serving in numerous capacities.

Throughout her Christian journey, Gwen was deeply committed to ministry and service. She was actively involved in the Junior Women Ministry, Women's Intermediate Auxiliary, and the Deaconess Council on the local, district, and state levels. Gwen was also a longtime teacher for the Second West Baptist Association Sunday School and BTU Congress. She was a faithful participant in the Tuesday Night Prayer Band and a member of Silver Star Chapter #41, Order of the Eastern Star.

Education was one of Gwen's greatest passions. She graduated from St. Paul High School and continued her studies at Chipola College and Florida State University. She devoted many years of her life to the field of education, working as a special education teacher in the Jackson County School District. Her kindness, patience, and unwavering belief in the abilities of her students left a lasting impact on generations of young people. Most of her career was spent at Graceville Elementary School, and during the summer months she taught at Hope School. A passionate advocate for children with special needs, Gwen especially enjoyed accompanying and encouraging her students at Special Olympics events.

Known for her nurturing spirit, Gwen was a caregiver at heart. She selflessly dedicated much of her life to caring for those she loved. With compassion and devotion, she provided support and comfort to her husband, mother-in-law, grandparents, father, and mother throughout their lives.

Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Alonzo Wright; her parents, Deacon Jackson Blount and Deaconess Annie Ruth Gainer Blount; her sisters, Renner Mae Blount and Lady Wanda Rose Blount Henderson; and her brother, Jefferson Blount.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: One brother: Pastor Leonard (Annie Pearl) Blount; six nieces: Lady Leticia (Pastor Kenneth) Baker, Lady Francesca (Pastor Eldric) Kirkman, Zanika Blount, Fodina Henderson, Eboni Garner, and Jiranda (Garfrey, Sr.) White; two nephews: Rachaun Blount and Julius Henderson; eleven great-nieces and great-nephews: Xaviera Henderson, Rachaun Blount, Jr., RyJuan Awak, Ni'Yonah Garner, Garfrey White, Jr., Micah Garner, Jylah White, Caleb Garner, Genesis Blount, Farrah Garner, and Rhia Rose Henderson; three goddaughters: Lady Leticia Baker, Lady Francesca Kirkman, and Portia Powell; one god-sister: Charisse Gray and a host of beloved cousins, other relatives, friends, former students, colleagues, and all whose lives were touched by her love, faith, and service.
