Horace Marrel Traylor

Horace Marrel Traylor

Horace Marrel Traylor, 86, of Sneads, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family.

Horace was a man whose life was defined not by grand words, but by quiet strength, steady dedication, and a deep, enduring love for those closest to him. Born and raised in Calhoun County, he graduated from Blountstown High School before answering the call to serve his country in the United States Army. His time in the military reflected his sense of duty and commitment—qualities that would remain with him throughout his life.

After returning home, Horace rooted himself firmly in family and community. He worked alongside loved ones at the family-owned Traylor’s Oyster Bar in Blountstown, where he built lasting connections and friendships. Never one to shy away from service, he later completed his first responder training and began a long and honorable career with the Florida State Hospital Fire Department. Over the course of 32 years, Horace served faithfully, earning the respect of his colleagues and leaving behind a legacy of reliability, courage, and quiet leadership.

Outside of work, Horace found joy in the simple, meaningful moments of life. He loved the excitement of drag races, the tradition and pride of Alabama football, and, perhaps most memorably, sharing his humor with others. His jokes—often delivered with perfect timing and a subtle grin—were a reflection of the warmth he carried within. While he was not a man of many words, when he spoke, it mattered, and when he loved, it was with his whole heart.

To his family, Horace was a steady presence—a source of comfort, strength, and unwavering support. He treasured time spent together, whether it was a lively gathering or a quiet afternoon. Those laid-back days, simply being surrounded by the people he loved, were what he cherished most.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Traylor; his mother, Ida Bailey Traylor; his brother, Robert Olan “R.O.” Traylor; his sisters, Vonnie Duke, Verna O’Brian, and Lorine Richter; and his nephews, LaDon Duke, Wayne Duke and Willard O’Brian. Though he carried the loss of each of them, he also carried their memory with love and resilience.

Horace leaves behind a family who will forever hold him in their hearts: his daughter, Tammy Traylor, and his son, Frankie Traylor; his grandchildren, Tori Barrentine Joyner, Colin Barrentine and Brooke Barrentine Burkhalter; and his great-grandchildren, Corbin Joyner and Asher McConchie. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews—Jeff and Ann O’Brian, Verna Mae and Ken Williams, Tim Kennedy, Jennifer and Norman Holley, and Jerane and Jack Spain—along with a host of great-nieces and great-nephews who will remember him fondly.

Horace’s life reminds us that a man does not need many words to leave a lasting impact. His kindness, his loyalty, his sense of humor, and his deep love for family spoke louder than anything else ever could. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the love he gave will continue to live on in all who knew him. In honoring Horace, his family remembers a life well lived— a life of service, humility, laughter, and love.
