John Gerald McCoy Sr.

John Gerald McCoy Sr., age 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2026. Born in Cottondale, Florida, to the late Lucile and Thomas McCoy, John was a proud Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 32. After retirement, he moved to Marianna, Florida, where he became a devoted member of Eastside Baptist Church.

John is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret; his sons, John Jr. and his wife Jean of Marianna, Florida, and Michael and his wife Keisha of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and his five grandchildren: Jed, Jamie, Michael, Jack, and Sean. He also leaves behind his siblings: Shirley Yates, Troy (Debra) McCoy, Sheryl (Hayes) Boone, Drucile (Willis) Hagan, and Julianne Martin, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, James and George McCoy; and his sister, Muriel Martin.

John’s greatest joys were coaching his sons in sports and fishing on Lake Okeechobee. His legacy of love, service, and dedication to family will be cherished always.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Chipola Ministry Center Food Bank.

A gathering of family and friends will be March 1, at 2pm at Eastside Baptist Church.  Memorialization will be by cremation with arrangements entrusted to the caring staff of licensed professionals at Peoples Funeral Home in Marianna, Florida.
