John Wayne Carmichael

John Wayne Carmichael, 84, of Graceville, Florida, passed away on April 9, 2026, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. He was born on August 8, 1941, in Cottonwood, Alabama, to John and Wilma Carmichael.

John attended Graceville High School and joined the Air Force within a year after graduation. John honorably served for 20 years in the United States Air Force, where he worked as a ground equipment technician and rose to the rank of Master Sergeant before retiring in 1980. He was stationed at Pease Air Force Base, New Hampshire, White Sands, and Da Nang Air Force Base, Vietnam, during the Vietnam War.

He often told stories of how he was a lifelong resident of Graceville and remembered being baptized in Holmes Creek as a young man.

John was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Earl; one sister, Janice; his beloved son Johnathan.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Carmichael; son Mark Carmichael; and brothers Lamar, Lavon, Wendell, and Bobby.

He was also loved and cared for by Karen Braxton as caregiver.

A memorial service, with full military honors, will be held at 1:00 p.m. (CST), on Saturday, May 1, 2026, in the chapel of James & Lipford Funeral Home, 5390 Cotton Street, Graceville, FL. A gathering for family and friends will follow at his home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to James and Lipford Funeral Home for the family to receive in John's honor.
