Larry Wayne Hutchinson
Larry Wayne Hutchinson
Larry Wayne Hutchinson, known lovingly to family and friends as Larry, was born on November 30, 1945, in Chattahoochee, Florida, and he went home to be with the Lord on June 11, 2026, in Dothan, Alabama. He lived a life marked by faith, service, wisdom, and kindness, and he leaves behind a legacy that reflects generosity and love of his fellow man.
Larry was the son of William Austin Hutchinson and Mary Pauline Hutchinson, and from his earliest days he carried the values of hard work, humility, and respect for others. He was a Christian man who believed in living with purpose and in treating people with dignity, compassion, and grace. Those who knew him saw in him a spirit that was intelligent, generous, and friendly, and they experienced in his life a steady example of what it means to walk with integrity.
He pursued his education with dedication and determination, earning an Associate of Arts degree from Chipola College and both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree from Florida State University. His commitment to learning was matched by his commitment to using that knowledge in service to others. Larry devoted 36 years of his life to Florida State Hospital, where he served as an administrator at MRDP. Through his work, he touched countless lives with patience, leadership, and a calm strength that inspired confidence and trust.
Larry was a man who understood that a meaningful life is built not only in the workplace, but also in the everyday moments shared with others. He loved coaching youth sports programs in Jackson County, where he encouraged young people with the same steady wisdom and positive spirit that guided his own life. He believed in helping others grow, in teaching by example, and in speaking words that lifted people up. His influence reached far beyond the field, because he invested in lives with sincerity and care. His home was a haven for anyone who needed a guiding light, a warm meal, or a place to stay.
One of the great joys of Larry’s life was time spent fishing off the Mexico Beach pier with his beloved wife, Peggie Evelyn Hutchinson. Their life together was a beautiful testimony of love, partnership, and shared memories. In Peggie, Larry found a faithful companion, and together they built a bond that reflected devotion and enduring affection. Their time together was filled with simple pleasures that became treasured moments, and those memories will remain a blessing to all who knew them.
Larry is survived by his children: Lori Hutchinson, Mark Hutchinson (Leslie), and David Hutchinson; brother, Ronald Hutchinson (Jo Ann); grandchildren, Hayley Johns, Dylan Johns, Talon Duncan, Austin Thomas, Emma Hutchinson, Oliver Hutchinson; and great grandchild, Traytyn Thomas. He is also remembered with love by those who shared in his family circle and cherished his presence, and his life will continue to be honored by the many people who were blessed to call him husband, father, grandfather, relative, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Austin Hutchinson and Mary Pauline Hutchinson, his loving wife of 49 years Peggie Essman Hutchinson, and granddaughter Olivia Hutchinson, and now rests in the peace of God, where there is no more pain, no more sorrow, and no more struggle. For those who mourn him, there is comfort in knowing that a life lived in faith is never wasted. Larry’s journey on earth has ended, but the impact of his life continues in the hearts, memories, and values he passed on to others.
In this season of loss, may we remember that a life well lived is one that points others toward hope. Larry Wayne Hutchinson lived with purpose, served with excellence, loved with sincerity, and believed in the promises of God. His life reminds us that faithfulness matters, that kindness leaves a lasting mark, and that the greatest testimony is a life that quietly and consistently reflects Christ. May his memory encourage all who knew him to live with gratitude, to love generously, and to walk each day with faith and courage.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, 2:00 PM (CST) at McAlpin Funeral Home in Sneads, FL.
