Margaret Ann Garbe Mullins

Margaret Ann Garbe Mullins

There are some people who leave behind memories. Margie Mullins left behind a town full of stories.

Margaret Ann Garbe Mullins, age 77, lovingly known as Margie, was born on November 23, 1948, in Riverside, New Jersey, to Pearl and John “Bud” Garbe. She carried her New Jersey roots with her throughout her life, never quite losing the accent that became both her trademark and her superpower.

Margie married the love of her life, William “Bo” Mullins, on July 25, 1976, in Pensacola, Florida. Together they built a life grounded in faith, family, laughter and unwavering devotion to one another. In the summer of 1982, they moved to Marianna, Florida, where Margie would become a local legend.

For nearly fifty years, Margie owned and operated Margie’s Beauty Salon, an institution every bit as important to Marianna as the courthouse, the football field and Sunday church. Her beauty shop was the classic small Southern-town salon where customers became family. Some of her clients sat in her chair for decades, coming not only for a haircut but also for advice, encouragement, and occasionally a well-deserved scolding.

Margie loved her customers fiercely and considered many of them dear friends. She had a gift for making people feel welcome, whether they came through the salon door for the first time or the thousandth. Her chair was where celebrations were shared, tears were shed, problems were solved, and laughter echoed daily.

She was also famous among her daughters and their friends for keeping a watchful eye on teenage behavior. More than one young person can still hear her unmistakable New Jersey voice calling out, “Where have you been?” or reminding them that decent girls had no business staying out that late. While the lectures could be intimidating in the moment, they were always delivered with love and concern, and many of those “girls” grew up knowing they had an extra mother looking out for them.

Margie loved many things in life: her family, her customers, a good laugh, a cold vodka, and gathering with the nieces, nephews, and honorary children who filled her home and heart. She never met a stranger for long, and she had a special way of making everyone feel like they belonged.

Above all, Margie loved her family. She was deeply devoted to Bo, her beloved husband and partner in life. She cherished her daughters, Amanda Mullins-Eagle and Angela Jane Baxter, and adored her grandchildren, Georgia Jean Baxter, John William Eagle and Jacob Greer Eagle, who brought endless pride and joy to her life.

Her faith was the steady foundation beneath everything she did. A devoted and lifelong Catholic, Margie was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Marianna, where she found strength, comfort, and community throughout her life.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and John “Bud” Garbe; her siblings, Joan Ford, John and Sherry Garbe, Kate McKeon, and Robert Garbe; and her niece, Wendy Garbe.

She is survived by her husband, William “Bo” Mullins; her daughters; her grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Rick Ford; her nieces and nephews, Lisa Wilson (John), Ricky Ford, Scott Ford (Susan), John Garbe (Tracey); two great nephews, and a great-great-niece, along with countless friends, customers, and adopted family members whose lives she touched.

The town she loved will miss the familiar sight of Margie behind her salon chair, the sound of her laughter, and yes, even the occasional New Jersey-accented lecture. But the lessons she taught, the friendships she nurtured, and the love she gave so freely will live on.

In true Margie fashion, we imagine she has already found the best chair in Heaven, caught up on all the news, and is reminding everyone to behave themselves.

Her family takes comfort in knowing that she has gone home to the Lord she faithfully served, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, friendship, and fabulous hair.

A funeral mass will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 27, 2026 at St. Ann Catholic Church with Father Phil Fortin and Reverend Dr. Nathan Atwood officiating.

Services are entrusted to the Lambe family at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.
