Joseph Powell Rogers, known affectionately as Joe to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on January 12, 2026, in Sneads, Florida. Born on June 15, 1940, in Bascom, Florida, Joe's journey through life was marked by his loving nature, creative spirit, and unwavering optimism.

Joe's early years were spent in the close-knit community of Bascom, where he formed the foundational values that would guide him throughout his life. A proud graduate of Malone High School in 1959, he carried the lessons learned and friendships forged there with him as he embarked on a life of service and dedication.

Shortly after his high school graduation, Joe joined the United States Air Force, a decision that would define the next two decades of his life. With commitment to his country and an adventurous spirit, he traveled extensively to many foreign lands, embracing the cultures and experiences that came with each assignment. He retired as a Tech Sergeant, carrying with him the respect and camaraderie of those who had the honor of serving alongside him.

Transitioning to civilian life, Joe continued to serve his community through a distinguished career with the Department of Corrections. His twenty years of service were characterized by the same integrity and leadership that had marked his military tenure, culminating in his retirement as a colonel. His colleagues remember him not only for his professionalism but also for his ability to inspire and uplift those around him.

A man of deep Christian faith, Joe found strength and solace in his beliefs. His spirituality was a guiding force, providing comfort and purpose throughout his life's journey. It was this faith that shone through in the way he cared for and cherished his family.

Family was the cornerstone of Joe's life. His love for family gatherings was evident in the joy and laughter that filled the room whenever he was present. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Tina Lanier Rogers, and his sons, Tony (Kim), Steve, Rick (Jackie), Joe Paul (Brenda), Kevin (Donna), and Alek (Michelle). His legacy also lives on through his fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the memories of his love and lessons.  He is also survived by his three sisters, Joyce Martin, Delores Rothstein and Nancy Thompson (Rex) as well as two brothers, Donnie (Sue) and Tom (Darlene).

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, James Rogers and Mary Dozier Rogers, his first wife, Bobbie Tindell Rogers, his infant daughter, Michelle Rogers, and brothers Jim, Buddy, and Larry Rogers. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his loved ones who passed before him.

An avid fisherman, Joe found peace and tranquility by the water. His passion for cooking was shared with all who had the pleasure of tasting his meals, whether they were prepared indoors or outdoors. Joe's hands were rarely still, as he enjoyed building various structures, leaving behind tangible reminders of his creativity and skill.

Those who knew Joe will remember him as a man who loved deeply, created joyfully, and faced each day with a bright and hopeful outlook. His impact on the world was as significant as it was subtle, touching lives through simple acts of kindness and a generous heart.

Joseph Powell Rogers lived a life that was as full as it was meaningful. He leaves behind a tapestry of memories that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we bid farewell to Joe, we celebrate a life well-lived and a spirit that will continue to inspire.
