William R. Peacock, known affectionately to many as Bill, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, in his beloved hometown of Altha, Florida. Born on April 15, 1937, Bill's life was a testament to dedication, community spirit, and a heartfelt connection to both family and the land he cherished.

Bill’s journey began in Altha, Florida, where his roots took hold and flourished throughout his lifetime. He proudly served his country in the Air Force, exemplifying a strong sense of duty and commitment. Bill served his community as Calhoun County School Broad member for 12 years. He also devoted his time to start the Altha Farmers Co-op in 1969, and eventually retired as General Manager. His leadership and unwavering support played a vital role in fostering the prosperity of local farmers and strengthening the farming community that was always close to his heart.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Bill was a man who truly enjoyed people and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His personality was marked by warmth and kindness, touching many lives throughout the years. As an avid outdoorsman and a huge fan of the Florida Gators, Bill found joy in simple pleasures and shared these passions with those around him. His greatest happiness was found in spending quality time with his grandchildren, passing on stories and values that linked generations together.

Bill leaves behind a loving family who were central to his life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Christine, who stood by him as his partner and closest confidante. His sons—Joey Peacock and his wife Gwen of Altha, Michael Peacock of Tallahassee, Warren Tanner and his wife Kim of Altha and Fred Tanner and his wife Darlene of Altha. Bill was also cherished by his sisters Elizabeth McCoy, Betty Graham and her husband Jimmy, and his twin sister Shirley Duce, whose bonds with him were special and enduring. His grandchildren Megan and her husband Sal, Kristin, David and his wife Hali, Brett and his wife Meagan, Colby, Hope, Brooke and her husband Ben, and McKenzie and her husband Elliott continue to honor his memory, supported by many great-grandchildren as well as several extended grandchildren and great grandchildren who brightened his life in later years.

Bill is preceded in death by his daughter Robin Tanner; his sister Jeanette and her husband E.B. Reese; and his parents, Roy and Thelma Peacock. Their memories, carried alongside his, complete the tapestry of a life filled with love and dedication.

Bill’s legacy is one of steadfast devotion—to family, farming, community, and country. He will be remembered with deepest respect and affection, leaving behind a trail of goodwill and cherished memories that inspire those who follow.
