Kathryn Ann Tyus

Kathryn Ann Tyus

Kathryn Ann Tyus, known lovingly to family and friends as Kathy, passed away on April 4, 2026, in Marianna, Florida, at the age of 72. Born on October 16, 1953, in Marianna, Florida, she lived her life with strength, devotion, and a steady commitment to the people she loved. Kathy was a Christian woman whose faith, work ethic, and love for her family guided her throughout her life.

Kathy was a graduate of Chattahoochee High School and carried the values of hard work and perseverance with her wherever she went. She was known as a very hard worker and spent many years serving the State of Florida as a correctional officer sergeant with the Florida Department of Corrections. Her years of service reflected her dedication, responsibility, and strong sense of duty. In addition to her career in public service, Kathy and her husband also owned and operated three restaurants in Chattahoochee and Sneads. She remained busy and active for as long as her health allowed, and those who knew her understood that she was always working, always helping, and always giving her best.

Family was the center of Kathy’s life, and she treasured every moment spent with those she loved. She is survived by her husband of fifty years, Ronnie E. Tyus; her daughter, Sherry Lowry and her husband David; her son, Shannon Tyus; her three grandchildren, Keegan Tyus, Noel Houk, and Rayven Houk; and her brother, Gerald Stephens. She also leaves behind many extended family members who will miss her dearly. Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Stephen Floyd Stephens; her mother, Dorothy Armstrong Stephens; and her brother, Danny Stephens.

Kathy especially loved her grandchildren and found great joy in being part of their lives. She loved every minute she was able to spend with them, and her love for them was evident in all she did. She was also an avid Florida State Seminole football fan and held season tickets for many years, cheering on her team with pride and enthusiasm. In addition, she enjoyed traveling and going on vacation with her family, making memories in many places over the years that will be cherished forever.

Those who knew Kathy will remember her as a strong, hardworking, and loving woman who gave generously of herself to her family, her work, and her community. Her life was marked by dedication, faith, and devotion to the people she held dear. Though her passing leaves a deep void, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.

A Funeral Service celebrating the life of Kathy will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM Central Time at Calvary Baptist Church in Chattahoochee, FL.  Interment will follow in the Salem Wesleyan Church Cemetery in Sneads, FL.
