Each year, the calm waters of Lake Seminole are transformed into a high-octane arena as the Sneads Showdown drag boat races roar to life. This annual event has become a much-anticipated summer tradition for both spectators and competitors, drawing hundreds of racing enthusiasts to the banks of the lake near Sneads Landing.
Located in the northwest corner of Florida, Lake Seminole spans over 37,500 acres and stretches across parts of Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. Formed at the confluence of the Chattahoochee and Flint Rivers, the lake is known for its scenic beauty, rich wildlife, and reputation as a premier fishing and boating destination. Its shoreline winds for nearly 376 miles, offering ample space for outdoor recreation and events like the Sneads Showdown.
The drag races bring together racers from across the Southeast, who compete in multiple categories based on boat type and engine class. High-powered vessels speed down a designated stretch of water as crowds cheer from the shoreline. Top finishers receive cash prizes, trophies, and bragging rights, but the real draw is the camaraderie, the community spirit, and the thrill of the race.
The event is organized with the support of local volunteers and sponsors, including the Jackson County Tourist Development Council, and typically includes food vendors, music, and family-friendly activities, making it more than just a race, but a weekend celebration.
Whether you're a racing fanatic or simply looking for a unique way to enjoy the beauty of Lake Seminole, the Sneads Showdown offers excitement, local flavor, and a showcase of small-town tradition at its fastest.
