Patience Aides in Camo Crushers 10-1 Victory over Tribe

By: Shelia Mader

The Camo Crushers of Sneads capitalized on control issues and a flood of free bases to roll past the Marianna Tribe 10-1 in a game defined entirely by walks, hit batters, and one early error. There were no hits recorded by either team.

Marianna threatened in the top of the first when Aubrey Bennett drew a leadoff walk, and after two strikeouts, Olivia Lolley was hit by a pitch and Kailynn McKnight walked to load the bases. The inning ended without a run, setting the tone for a frustrating night at the plate. Sneads answered in the bottom half when Rhylie Branch reached on an error to open the game, May Mestas was hit by a pitch, and despite a pair of strikeouts, Branch eventually came around to score for a 1-0 lead.

Both teams struggled to string together anything in the second. Marianna went down on three straight strikeouts, while Sneads managed only a hit batter but failed to score. The Tribe again put runners on in the third with multiple walks but couldn’t push a run across, continuing a pattern of missed opportunities.

The game broke open in the bottom of the third. The Crushers sent a parade to first base as Kennedy Belford, Kassidy Patrick, Dexleigh Godfrey, and Delanie Feltman were all hit by pitches, followed by walks to Branch, Mestas, and Amelia Varieur. With runners constantly moving up without the benefit of a hit, Sneads plated nine runs in the inning. Haysleigh Baxley recorded the only ball put in play during the stretch, grounding out to first, while additional hit batters to McKenzie Wright and Averie Pittman kept the line moving until the inning finally ended.

Marianna avoided the shutout with a run late, but the outcome was never in doubt after the third. In a game where pitching control was the deciding factor, the Crushers made the most of every opportunity to reach base and turned it into a lopsided 10-1 win.
