Sneads Elementary Earns Florida School of Excellence Honor
By: Shelia Mader
Sneads Elementary has been named a Florida School of Excellence for its outstanding academic performance, a distinction that highlights the hard work of students, teachers, and leaders at the school.
In Florida, a School of Excellence designation is based on statewide accountability results. To qualify, a school must rank in the top 20 percent of its peers in the state for its grade group over at least two of the past three years, based on the percentage of possible points earned in its school grade calculation. A school must also consistently earn no lower than a “B” grade during that time period. Once earned, the designation can remain in place for up to three years and brings greater decision-making flexibility for school leaders.
Being in that top tier reflects high student achievement and sustained success in the classroom. It also gives a school certain administrative flexibilities, like broader autonomy for the principal and adjustments to instructional policies.
At the helm of Sneads Elementary is Principal Amy Allen. Her reputation for leadership and excellence is well known throughout the region. Before leading Sneads Elementary, Allen held administrative positions at Marianna K8 and Early Childhood Center with the same success. She held a strong track record at Marianna Middle School, where she directed award-winning bands year after year. Her work there earned respect from students, families, and colleagues alike, and set the tone for her commitment to high standards and student success.
Under Allen’s leadership, Sneads Elementary has continued to focus on strong instruction, community engagement, and positive school culture. This latest recognition as a School of Excellence reflects those efforts and highlights the school’s position among Florida’s best.
Congratulations to Sneads Elementary, Principal Amy Allen, and the entire school community on this well-deserved honor.
