Mark Green Edwards
Mark Green Edwards
Mark Green Edwards, age 61, of Sneads, Florida, passed away at home leaving behind a legacy of service, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to his family.
Mark dedicated 27 years of his life to a distinguished career as a Correctional Officer. Known for his sharp wit and unmistakable presence, he was a fixture at the jail, where his frequent use of the term "Young man" became a trademark recognized by everyone. Amidst these years of service, Mark took a short break from service to drive as a long-haul operator, a position that added many stories to his animated tales. In addition, Mark achieved a significant personal milestone by attending night school to earn his business degree in 2007, an accomplishment that remained a point of great pride for him. His friends will fondly recall the many times Mark’s sense of humor led them into spirited situations that became the stories they'd all tell for years to come. His stories were always followed by laughter from his creative recollection of events.
While he was a disciplined officer by trade, Mark’s true passion was found at home. He was the chef of the family, finding his greatest joy in cooking for Sunday dinners where the Edwards table was always full. Above all else, Mark’s heart belonged to his family. He was a man who lived for his "partners in crime"—his granddaughters, Molleigh and Macey McDowell—and cherished every moment as their Pappyaw, swimming and cart riding at 'the hacienda'.
Mark is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Kathy; his parents, Guy and Robbie Fay Edwards; his children, Travis Edwards and Amber Edwards McDowell (Justin, whom Mark also called son); his brother, Ricky Edwards; and his sister, Jennifer Edwards Bridges (Donald). He also leaves behind his nephew, Josh Dudley (Aaron), niece, Jessica Dudley Bradley (Logan), aunt, Judy Howard, and uncle, Bob Edwards, along with a community of friends, colleagues, and extended family who will forever treasure his humor and friendship.
In accordance with Mark’s wishes, cremation has been planned. The family will gather for a private graveside service to honor his life and the immense love he shared with them.
