The Cottondale Hornets’ basketball season came to a close last week, wrapping up what was an impressive 19-5 campaign.

The Malone Tigers finished the regular season with a 12-12 record before heading into districts.

America’s favorite pastime is here and the sounds of bats swinging and oohs and ahs over every pitch can be heard. Jackson County survived tryouts and teams being chosen without a ton of negativity.

America’s pastime is back on the diamond in Jackson County, and the Cottondale Hornets Middle School baseball program officially opened its 2026 season last week with a three-game stretch that offered plenty of learning moments, flashes of promise, and valuable early-season experience.

It had been building for weeks. The Sneads Pirates felt a win coming, and a road trip to Panama City to face the Bozeman Bucks turned out to be the right setting.
